Behind the Scenes Collections Spotlight: Windsor Quilts
SOLD OUT FOR July 15 - See Friday July 17 for additional event.
Join us on Wednesday, July 15, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. for a special behind the scenes look at the quilts of Windsor Historical Society with Curator Kristen Wands. The Society’s beautiful and varied quilts are rarely exhibited but will be made available especially for program participants. This is an in-person program, provided in a safe, socially-distanced manner.

Quilts selected for this program range in date from the 1850s to the mid-20th Century and include a variety of styles including a Grandmother’s Flower Garden, a Mariner’s Compass, and an album quilt signed by the members of First Church. The Society has a particularly strong collection of crazy quilts and log cabin variations, some in sumptuously embroidered silks and velvets, others in scraps of cotton prints! One even has a backing made from old salt bags. The quilts represent the handwork of many generations of Windsor women, and we’ll get to know a bit about some of the quilters, too!

Advanced registration is required. Participation is limited to 10 people to ensure a safe, socially-distanced setting. Facemasks are required, guests will be spaced six feet apart. Gloves will be provided. Please register on-line at www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org or call 860-688-3813 by Friday, July 10. COST: $6 adults, $5 seniors, $4 WHS members.

The Windsor Historical Society, founded in 1921, invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over four centuries. The Society’s museum and research library is located at 96 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free during summer 2020.
