AFTH teacher Brianna Stronk is a musician, former English teacher, and mother from East Windsor, who began her journey with Music Together as a mom in class with her young daughter, Iris. “After our first semester I knew I wanted to become a Music Together teacher.” Stronk completed Music Together’s teacher training program in the Summer of 2018. “I am very excited to be working with my daughter’s first music teachers, Sarah Asmar and Jane Roets, to bring this exceptional program to Windsor and the surrounding communities,” says Stronk. “Bringing music-making into everyday family life is important to me, and our class shares my enthusiasm.” The fall class learned songs and activities featuring Music Together’s “Fiddle” collection. The winter session will feature songs from the “Drums” collection. During each session, participants learn a new collection of songs and activities they can bring home to share with the whole family. “This program is about so much more than just learning songs and playing games, although the quality of the songs and games is outstanding, and the developmental milestones we witness are so exciting. Most importantly, though, it’s about building a musical community,” Stronk explains. “Making music with my family and having friends with whom to share those experiences helps me to be a better, happier mom, and fosters relationships I treasure. I love seeing the friendships form in the classes just as much as I love to see the musical skills develop across a semester.” Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children birth through age seven. The Music Together curriculum was coauthored in 1987 by Kenneth K. Guilmartin (Founder/Director) and Rowan University Professor of Music Education Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz (Director of Research) and offers programs for families; schools; at-risk populations; and children with special needs, in over 2000 communities in 40 countries. The company is passionately committed to bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music-making and helping people discover the joy—and educational value—of early music experiences.
