As part of Connecticut’s Open House day, please join us for a journey back to 1810. On Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., step into the Windsor Historical Society’s national award-winning Strong-Howard House, the 1810 home of Captain Nathaniel Howard where yes, you really CAN touch everything. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm., you will be welcomed into the parlor by Mrs. Howard, who will share plans for her son’s upcoming wedding. Captain Howard will take you through his store. Don’t be surprised if he attempts to sell you some fancy textiles or a tortoise-shell comb! From 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Mrs. Howard will be cross-stitching a bookmark in the Strong-Howard House parlor, and will help you complete one to take home if you so desire. Captain Howard will reminisce about his times at sea (watch out for tall tales!)  
 
You are welcome to browse through the house and try out some early American games at your leisure. We will provide instruction if needed. Since the Howards’ home is furnished with reproductions of the items they would have used inside, everything is hands-on. The Howards’ four-poster canopy bed is a marvel of comfort and warmth, and family members just might let you take a peek at treasures stored in the family high chest. Mrs. Howard’s famous shortbread and lemonade will be available in the Society’s main building throughout the day in the Society’s Hands-On-History Learning Center, and volunteer Jim Trocchi will power up the Windsor Locks Canal model in the Society’s history galleries, a favorite with all ages.
