As part of Connecticut’s FREE Open House day, please join us for a journey back to 1810. On Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 11-3 p.m., step into the Windsor Historical Society’s national award-winning Strong-Howard House, the 1810 home of Captain Nathaniel Howard furnished with reproductions of what the Howard family would have owned so yes, you really CAN touch everything. You will be welcomed by the smells of delicious food wafting through the home as our hearth cooker Becky Hendricks prepares it. She just might ask you to help shelling peas (it’s fun)! Paul Hendricks will lead some games of chance, and our guides will demonstrate and help visitors with simple colonial tasks like wool carding, and games like ball-and-cup, and Jacob’s Ladder. In the main building, our Hands-On-History Learning Center features toys and activities for children of all ages and volunteer Jim Trocchi will power up our working model of the Windsor Locks Canal. Our Windsor neighbors The Oliver Ellsworth Homestead and the Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut, will also be free to the public on June 9 as part of Connecticut Open House day, so make it a museum day right here in Windsor! |
