Exhibition Hours: Thursday 6 – 8 PM Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM Sunday 11 AM – 4 PM For 45 years, Jack McConnell has photographed Hartford and Connecticut in a classic style for business owners and designers. But right now, something is changing in our Capital City, and Jack has challenged himself to see Hartford with fresh eyes. By shooting only with an extreme telephoto 400-550mm lens, an extreme wide 8-15mm lens, and a multi-colored polarizing filter, Jack has created a Hartford parallax effect, encouraging residents, workers, and visitors to take a closer look at Hartford and appreciate the city in a new way. Jack shot the most extreme of these photos with an 8mm fisheye lens, taking in a rounded 180 degree view that provides visual information from high in the sky to the tips of his shoes and from the extended fingertips of his left to his right hand. Viewers tend to linger a little longer on these photographs and give more thought to what is special about Hartford. After creating a dramatic collection of 'Round Hartford photos, Jack has moved on to the 28 towns surrounding Hartford, shooting in each town an iconic fish-eye photo that represents their shared interests and goals. Several events/workshops will complement the exhibition. * Exhibition opens with a FREE Public Reception: Meet the artist on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. (Snow date, Saturday January 19th, 5-7 p.m.) Music by Jim Mercik and Alvin Carter Sr. * Connecting Voices: Saturday, January 26, 1:30-3:30 p.m. An afternoon of poetry readings inspired by current exhibition, Hartford Parallax. One poet, chosen by the audience, will receive an original Jack McConnell print. Free * Artist talk: Saturday, February 2nd, 1:30-3:30 p.m., with photographer Jack McConnell. Free * Film Night: Friday, February 15th, 6:00 p.m.; pizza and popcorn. About the film: He was a postal clerk. She was a librarian. With their modest means, the couple managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history. Meet Herb and Dorothy Vogel, whose shared passion and discipline have defied stereotypes and redefined what it means to be an art collector. Informal discussion following the film. Free Guitar Society Concerts: The Windsor Art Center welcomes back the Connecticut Guitar Society for its winter 2019 concert series. The Connecticut Guitar Society is a non-profit presenting arts organization. It is the largest organization of its kind serving the general public and classical guitarists by providing a forum for listening, learning, performing and teaching. From Bach to Blues, Flamenco to Folk, the Society provides guitar enthusiasts with unique opportunities to hear and play the guitar in intimate settings throughout Connecticut. Sunday, January 20, 2018, 2:00 p.m: Hiroya Tsukamoto: A very engaging guitarist/songwriter from Kyoto, Japan, he makes classical, jazz and world music into his own signature style which creates "earthy, organic soundscapes that impart a mood of peace and tranquility". Sunday, February 10, 2018, 2:00 p.m.: Duo Alterity: This local flute and guitar duo of Allison Makenzie Hughes and Joe Van Doren is emerging as a promising chamber ensemble who recently debuted at Carnegie Hall and many other prestigious venues. They are known for sensitive musicality and captivating performances. Located in Windsor, Connecticut, the Windsor Art Center is a non-profit organization that promotes the visual and performing arts and presents visual art exhibits showcasing the works of a variety of artists working in diverse media and genres and hailing from throughout New England and beyond. Artist talks and children’s activities complement the programming. There is no charge to visit the gallery or the on-site gift shop which features locally made art. Parking is free and easily accessible.
