Childhood Conversations Presents: Together We Will Learn to Support and Develop Children’s Social Emotional Skills to Reduce Challenging Behaviors and Strengthen Families and Communities

In its second year of collaboration, Childhood Conversations and Together We Will join together for a dynamic, engaging event, focused on social-emotional learning.

The two-day conference, Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30, at the Hartford-Windsor Marriott in Windsor, will feature over 40 workshops, including: Social Emotional Strategies Every Early Educator Should Know and Use, How to Handle Children with No “Off” Button, Mindful Yoga, a panel discussion facilitated by David DesRoches of WNPR, Supporting Young Children Who Have Experienced Trauma, The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children, Jesse Lewis Choose Love Enrichment Program, Trauma-Informed Practice Within Home Visiting, Embedding Social-Emotional Learning into Classroom Instruction, Self-Care for Caretakers, Jugando con las Emociones (Playing with Emotions, presented in Spanish), Discovering the Untold Story of Childhood Trauma, and Interactive Music, Movement, and Literacy for Pre-Literacy Skills.

Both days will feature keynote speakers. Friday’s speaker is Lise Fox, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies and the Co-Director of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, the University of South Florida Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. She is currently engaged in research and technical assistance projects related to the implementation of evidence-based practices with in early care, education, and early intervention systems; state and program implementation technical assistance; and the implementation of the Pyramid Model. Fox will focus on “Social Emotional Learning Begins Day 1: Promoting Social Emotional Competence in the Early Years.”

The Saturday keynote is Nick Yoder, Ph.D., Director of Policy and Practice, Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning. Yoder oversees multiple policy-and practice-related initiatives at the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) to support state education agencies (SEAs) as they plan, develop, and implement statewide SEL policies and practices. His keynote, “Creating System to Support SEL,” will explore ways in which educators and leaders can ensure that all youth are supported, and the adults have the tools and resources they need to engage effectively with their students to support SEL across the school, district, or afterschool program.

This conference has offerings for parents, parent educators, early childhood teachers/caregivers, elementary teachers, mental health providers, after school professionals, early intervention providers and preschool special education providers.
