Denise Balcanoff is a local Connecticut artist who was born and raised in New York City. She developed a passion for art at a very young age, attended the H.S. of Art & Design in Manhattan, and continued to study art at Buffalo State College, while earning her teaching degree. Soon after, she moved to Bloomfield, CT, raised a family, and taught Early Childhood Education for 33 years. Recently retired, Denise returned to her love of art and discovered the playfulness of alcohol inks. She loves their bright saturated colors and how they blossom. Alcohol inks are a very forgiving medium and easy to use, achieving beautiful results. She enjoys experimenting with them on different substrates, combining them with various mediums, and exploring different techniques. When working with alcohol inks, she often feels a bit like a mad scientist, wondering what she'll create next! “To me art is love and can help heal the soul, and therefore, I love sharing it with others,” says Denise. When Denise is not drawing or painting for her own enjoyment, she still enjoys teaching, but instead of working with young children, she shares her passion with adult and young adult students. Through painting or drawing, she teaches them to relax and release the stresses of the day!
