Trinity Church, Windsor, CT and Red Bird Mission Crafts are hosting an Appalachian Craft Fair at Trinity Church, 180 Park Ave., Windsor, CT on Saturday July 29, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Craft items will also be available for purchase following the Sunday July 30, 9:30 AM Worship Service. Shoppers will find beautiful handmade traditional crafts developed in an age when total self-sufficiency was necessary for those living in the isolated mountains. Many handmade items include jewelry, hand-painted gourds, woven place mats, and brooms for use or decoration. Doll collectors will have opportunity to purchase a variety of handmade dolls, and several varieties of corn shuck flowers will delight flower lovers. Wooden crafts consist of toys, games, kitchen utensils, cooling racks, stools, and benches. Adorable wood and cloth Christmas ornaments, an assortment of nativity sets, and the one-of-a-kind Santa dolls add to the colorful display. Red Bird Mission has enabled local residents in the Cumberland Mountains to become more self-reliant since its beginning in 1921 as a mission school in the isolated community of Beverly. The mission continues to provide a high quality education to children and youth through its school, and assists families through a dental clinic, health education, community outreach, community housing improvement and a thrift store.
