The year is 1810, and young Annie is beginning a new life in Windsor, Connecticut…and so Windsor Historical Society unveils its latest publication, Annie’s Home, a children’s story based on the real people who lived in the Society’s historic Strong-Howard House. The Annie’s Home Book Launch Celebration! takes place 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, at Windsor Historical Society. The event is free, and participants may purchase copies of the Annie’s Home book for $20. Join author (and former Society director) Christine Ermenc, illustrator Susan Tait-Porcaro, and characters from the Annie’s Home book in an on-site celebration of this new historical children’s book. Set in 1810 Windsor, this beautifully illustrated story introduces children to the life of Annie Howard as she navigates the complexities of assimilating into a new family – a family that actually lived in the Society’s historic Strong-Howard House on Palisado Green! History lovers will want to take home signed copies of this fabulous new book for the whole family! To maintain a COVID-safe event there will not be a large presentation or gathering, rather, the public is invited to drop in any time between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to meet the author, illustrator, and characters, and of course to buy their own copy of the new Annie’s Home book. Face masks are required, and guests are asked to maintain social distancing to ensure a safe and healthy event. For more information visit www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org or call 860-688-3813. Those unable to make it on September 19, can plan to join us for one of these special “Annie”-themed events to learn more about the life of young Annie Howard and purchase their own copy of the new Annie’s Home book. Annie’s World. Saturday, October 24, 11:00a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Families are invited to drop in and join in with demonstrations and activities that young Annie Howard (of Annie’s Home) might have done as a young woman growing up in early-19th-century Windsor. Free admission. *Annie’s Kitchen. Saturday, November 21, 11:00a.m. – 2:00p.m. Families are invited to drop in and participate in preparing food and cooking on the hearth as young Annie Howard would have done in early-19th-century Windsor. Free admission. (*health conditions permitting). The Windsor Historical Society, founded in 1921, invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over four centuries. The Society’s museum and research library is located at 96 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free this fall, 2020.
