CRIS Radio – Connecticut Radio Information System – is a 39-year-old nonprofit that broadcasts articles featured in newspapers and magazines for people who are blind or unable to read due to other disabilities. In addition, CRIS is the only service in the nation to offer the largest line-up of human narrated children’s magazines and Spanish-language newspapers and magazines. Tim Parker, vice president of New Country Motor Car Group in Hartford, whose foursome will include the event’s emcee Scot Haney, WFSB meteorologist and co-host of Better Connecticut, and Eric Parker, WFSB news anchor, said he is proud to support CRIS Radio because it is an organization that makes an important difference in improving the lives of people who are blind or unable to read due to a disability. Parker’s goal this year is to increase the number of participating golfers and amount raised for the organization in light of the state’s budget cuts to CRIS Radio. Paul A. Young, chairman of CRIS Radio’s Board of Directors, said he is very grateful to Scot Haney and New Country Motor Cars for helping to significantly grow the event by attracting new sponsors and golfers in recent years. “On behalf of the CRIS Board of Directors, we are very thankful to all of the golfers and businesses that continue to support our organization,” Young said. “Their support makes a big difference to CRIS Radio and the people we serve. “ CRIS Radio makes its audio service available to nearly 80,000 people in Connecticut who are blind or print challenged due to disabilities. CRIS provides audio versions of newspapers and magazines, classroom materials, Spanish-language publications, historical archived documents, and audible tours at museum exhibits, all featuring human narration recorded by its 300 volunteers. The player fee is $160, which includes 18 holes of golf, a player cart, barbecue lunch on the green, and grilled steak dinner with complimentary beverages.
