October 3, 1979. Jimmy Carter was President. Ella Grasso was Governor. Warren P. Johnson was Windsor’s Mayor and Albert Ilg was Town Manager. It was a time before cell phones and the internet. An F-4 tornado struck Windsor, Windsor Locks, and parts of Suffield without warning. Many will never forget that day.
Windsor Historical Society and WIN-TV are collaborating on a program to mark the tornado’s 40th anniversary this fall. We have scheduled filming sessions at the WIN-TV studio at 599 Matianuck Avenue in Windsor for Monday, February 4, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, February 8, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you have memories, photographs, or artifacts you would like to share, please contact Jenny Hawran, Executive Director, WIN-TV, 860-688-2626, or jenny.h@win-tv.org. Please schedule your session with Jenny ahead of time. We will establish additional dates for filming if necessary. |
