In 1982, art teacher Robin Michael led a group of Windsor students and teachers at Sage Park Middle School in creating a commemorative quilt to honor Windsor's 350th anniversary celebrations in 1983. Ms. Michael photographed historic homes on Palisado Avenue, and a group of her students including Liz Root, Dana Garrett, Allan Eisenbach and Richie Birch used textile paints to stencil images of the houses onto quilt squares. Participating staff members attended a workshop several times before completing their square, and sewing teacher Marge Lotridge later assembled the quilt. The finished piece hung at the school and was later donated to Windsor Historical Society. This fall, the quilt is coming out of storage to honor another landmark birthday the 375th anniversary of Windsor, Connecticut's first English settlement.
The 350th anniversary quilt will on display from September through November of 2008 outside Superintendent Elizabeth Feser's office at the Board of Education, at the L. P. Wilson Center on 601 Matianuck Avenue. Come see it!
