First Town Downtown

First Town Downtown
First Town Downtown establishes consensus and cooperation by building partnerships among the various groups that have a stake in the commercial district. By getting everyone working toward the same goal, FTDT can provide effective, ongoing management and advocacy for our downtown. Through volunteer recruitment and collaboration with partners representing a broad cross section of the community, FTDT puts a wide range of perspectives into its efforts. A governing board of directors and standing committees make up the fundamental organizational structure of volunteer-driven revitalization programs. Volunteers are coordinated and supported by a paid program director. This structure not only divides the workload and clearly delineates responsibilities, but also builds consensus and cooperation among the various stakeholders.

Help us work together to build a sustainable and complete community revitalization effort.

Vintage Radio & Communications Museum of CT

Vintage Radio & Communications Museum of CT
Can you imagine your world without communications? No television. No radio. No computers. Civilization as we know it would be completely different than it is today. At the Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut, we show our visitors the history of electronic communications and let them experience the evolution first-hand.

Tune radios over 80 years old... talk over candlestick telephones like your grandparents used... send a message in Morse Code... crank a phonograph and listen to 100-year-old records... see what television was like when the only color choices were black and white. Learn about the telegraph, telephone, mechanical sound recording, wireless telegraphy, radio and television, and the seeds of computers, satellite communications and the Internet. It's all here at the museum.

Our volunteers are happy to give personal tours or you can wander at your leisure. We also offer classes in radio repair and crystal radio construction (especially good for scout troops!).
