At a Special Meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, April 20, the Windsor Board of Education voted to reduce its Recommended Budget for 2009-2010 by $290,000. The revised Board of Education Budget before the Town Council is now $60,724,647, a 1.98 percent increase over the current budget. In a meeting last week with the Connecticut State Department of Education, the Windsor district administration learned that it can use American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) monies to offset part of the proposed budget increase in special education for the 2009-2010 school year. The district also learned last Thursday that its health claim costs could be reduced due to favorable health claim experience. As a result of this new information, $190,000 in special education out-of-district tuition and $100,000 in health insurance costs have been reduced from the Board s original recommended budget. Milo W. Peck, President of the Windsor Board of Education, went before the Windsor Town Council on the same evening of April 20 and shared with the Council the news that the Board had reduced its budget. He commended the School District s administration for doing the right thing by bringing forth to the Board of Education information that would lead to a reduction in the budget.
