Greater Hartford residents seeking their favorite Autumn fresh locally grown vegetables and fruit, and homemade foods and crafts will find them at a farmers market in Windsor, Conn. All Summer long, First Town Downtown of Windsor has been hosting a popular farmers market which will be through October 28. The outdoor market is held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday afternoon at 240 Broad Street (Route 159), on the corner of Maple Ave and Broad St. in Windsor Center. It will be held rain or shine, weekly, through October 28. "Our farmers and vendors are gearing up for Fall and soon will offer a variety of seasonal produce and crafts," explains Ashley Williams Dufresne, Director of First Town Downtown. "Windsor Center is a convenient location for the many people who use its businesses, restaurants and shops, and for others who drive through the area after work." Many farms and vendors will sell products every single week. They include: produce and baked goods from Newgate Farms of Windsor, Produce from Farms of Southern New England from Windsor and Wild Carrot Farm of Canton is USDA certified organic and offers a variety of fresh produce; baked goods from Gio's Bakery of Granby; honey and beeswax candles from Swift Farm of Mansfield; garlic and produce from The Garlic Farm of West Granby; Fresh homemade bread, pesto and fresh mozzarella cheese from Belnotti Bakery of Stamford; all natural steaks, hamburgers and coming in September pork cuts from Scantic Valley Farm in Somers and hand made jewelry from All Things Beaded of Windsor. Joining the market in September will be Brown's Harvest of Windsor who will be bringing pumpkins, gourds, and other fall goodies! Barbs bags and a couple of other crafters visit the market throughout the season. First Town Downtown is also selling reusable Farmers' Market shopping bags. The bags are unique because they fold up to the size of an I-Pod, but will also hold up to 4 gallons of milk.. "We hope that local residents take advantage of our farmers market," adds Ashley Williams Dufresne "It's a great way to showcase fresh produce and home-made products from Windsor and our surrounding towns." Admission to the farmers market is free. Free parking is available on the street and in adjacent parking lots.
