In June, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6-a designation indicating that a global pandemic is underway. More than 170 countries are now reporting cases of H1N1 Influenza, a virus the WHO anticipates will persist into the upcoming influenza season. As health experts around the world seek to better understand the scope and severity of the flu pandemic, this is a critical time for businesses to review and update their emergency preparedness plans. The Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross has a variety of options available to assist you in your preparation efforts. From a "Preparing Small Business Workplaces for Pandemic Flu - Leader's Toolkit" which you can purchase on-line and deliver to your team, to having one of our instructors come to your workplace and deliver the 90-minute program, each option covers: What to expect during a flu pandemic. The difference between seasonal flu and pandemic flu. How the influenza virus spreads. Steps to reduce the spread of flu in the workplace. What questions to ask about workplace policies, practices and protocols related to the potential of a flu pandemic. We are also pleased to announce a series of workshops which will take place in November. You are invited to attend one of these seminars to help Prepare Your Employees and Your Business for Pandemic Flu. These seminars - which will take place at the Connecticut Chapter's Farmington Office located at 209 Farmington Avenue in Farmington - are scheduled on: Monday, November 2 9:00 AM Thursday, November 5 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 10 1:00 PM Friday, November 13 9:00 AM (Note: The same material will be covered during each session.
