| In the 10 months since the beginning of SCORE's prison seminar program we have, with our partners, made 15 presentations to approximately 450 inmates. These numbers will dramatically increase during the coming year with Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution, Enfield, now into the program and Osborn C.I., Somers, coming on stream in January ‘05. This year-long program has been structured so that an inmate who plans to start a business upon release will have a clear understanding of what is needed in order to be successful. Subjects that have and will be offered by our partners who are experts in their field include pre-business legal decisions, business plan (narrative and financial), marketing, taxes, available resources, financing, organization/time management, credit, franchises and e-commerce. According to the latest Department of Correction annual report: Average Daily Inmate Expense: $72.43 Number incarcerated: 20,858 Average age: Male 32.1 – Female 34.4 Number enrolled in prison educational program: 3,617 GED’s Awarded: 629 Recidivism: 69% rearrested within 3 years 46% reconvicted within 3 years 22% reincarcerated within 3 years If our seminars can provide a platform by which an ex-inmate can successfully rejoin society we will feel our effort has been completely justified.
