United Way of Coastal Fairfield County invite you to Closing Connecticut's Achievement Gap: Getting it Right From the Start. Business Summit on Early Childhood Education Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 8:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Dolan School of Business, Fairfield University Connecticut currently has the largest achievement gap in the country-the greatest educational disparity between minority and white students as well as between low-income students and their more affluent peers. Evidence of the gap appears in fourth-grade reading test scores-but factors leading to underachievement are in place long before children reach fourth grade. Please join us for a complimentary breakfast meeting for Connecticut employers that examines the importance of preschool education to our state's economic competitiveness. Research shows that high-quality learning programs for children from birth to age five yield high returns. For every dollar invested, savings can range from $2.50 to $17 in reduced spending on remedial education and social services. In fact, four decades of data underscore the links between quality pre-K experiences, individual success, and states' economic growth and productivity. Improving Connecticut's early childhood education is both an ethical and an economic imperative. Hear from national economists and fellow business and philanthropic leaders in Connecticut about the critical role business leaders can play in the process. See featured speakers and panelists on the back of this brochure. This is a complimentary event for Connecticut businesses. Registration is required.
