Representatives from Carmon Community Funeral Homes selected a design that illustrates the many inventions that took place in our state, called "Connecticut Firsts." Marshall Fox, Ray Embury and Laurel Cox from Konica Minolta Business Solutions selected the Guardian Angel Labrador design for their dog. Says Embury, "Konica Minolta is extremely proud to participate in the Raining Cats & Dog's art project. As one of the Founding Father's of WEF we have seen so much good come from this wonderful organization that anytime we are given the opportunity to contribute we are more than happy to do so. And by supporting the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, whether it be financially or through our in-kind donations, we are committed to promoting this great town we work and live in." The public art event which will be on display in the spring, is similar to the Cow Parade that took place in West Hartford in 2007 and Paws for a Cause in Windsor in 2009. There will be twenty beautifully painted, unique fiberglass dogs and cats placed around town to not only promote area businesses, but also raise money for the Windsor Education Foundation and Windsor Chamber of Commerce, both non-profit organizations. “This is a fantastic way to transform the Town of Windsor for the spring of 2014 and raise money needed to fund the important programs and activities supported by the Windsor Education Foundation and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce,” says Jane Garibay, Executive Directory of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce. “Public art events across the country have been shown to increase traffic for area businesses and are a really fun way to showcase local artistic talent. We’re very excited to be co-hosting this event.” Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring a dog or cat chose from the submitted designs or provided their own artist. Artists receive a stipend to pay for their time and materials. The decorated dogs and cats will be on display at the sponsor locations and at a few select events during April and May 2014 until they are auctioned off at the end of May, with all proceeds funding Windsor Education Foundation and Windsor Chamber of Commerce programs. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the auction tentatively scheduled for May 23rd. The Windsor Education Foundation encourages community support for excellence in public education and provides funding for innovative projects and programs.
