William "Bill" Dumais, of Groton Long Point, CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the age of 81. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (Ryan). He was the caring father of Daniel (Corinne) Dumais of Simsbury, CT, Elizabeth (William) Phoenix of Irvington, NY, William Jr. (Jayne) of East Lyme, CT, and Bryan (Ann) Dumais of Naperville, IL. Bill loved and cherished his eleven grandchildren; Courtney, Christine and Owen Dumais, Billy III, Ryan and Alexis Dumais, Theresa and Raymond Phoenix and Robert, Kaitlyn and Brady Dumais. Bill was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on September 23, 1934, son of the late Annie and Edme Dumais. Bill graduated from Woonsocket High School and The University of Rhode Island, after which he served in the U.S. Army. Professionally, Bill was an Industrial Sales Engineer in the utility sector, and his engineer's training and organization carried through in many aspects of his life. Bill retired after 29 years with Northeast Utilities. As a 50 year resident of Windsor, CT, Bill was an active member of the community. He served as president of The Windsor Chamber of Commerce and also as chairman of The Windsor Shad Derby in 1969. In addition, Bill served on the Board of the St. Gabriel's Home and School Association, and as President of both the St. Thomas Seminary Parent Association and The Loomis Chaffee Parent Association. Above all, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends. A devout Catholic, Bill and Mary were longtime members of St. Gabriel's parish in Windsor, and later St. Mary's parish in Groton, CT. He was an enthusiastic beachcomber, avid skier, biker, and swimmer. Bill also enjoyed jazz music, playing bridge and world travel. The Dumais family appreciates the wonderful care of the Lawrence-Memorial Hospital Staff and the support of the Groton Long Point Police Department. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 11 from 3-6pm at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Rt. 1, Mystic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 12 at 11am at St. Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
