Forgotten Acres Farms is a hidden gem and a true delightful when you discover it. The 14 acre family farm and 170+ year old farm house is located along scenic Route 159 in Windsor. Since the Rothe family purchased the property in 2006, their goal has been to turn it back into a working farm. Over the past several years they've worked on clearing the land for crops and a new barn, as well as restoring the house for their family. Currently they have honey bees, goats, fresh vegetables, pumpkins, and plans for expansion! They offer pure, raw, local honey as well as beeswax products and produce. "This is our first tea fair and we're equally excited about participating as both a vendor as well as a spectator. Not only are we proud to offer tea's best accompaniment.honey, we're excited to meet more tea enthusiasts!" says Naomi Rothe. "To me tea is like a symbolic gateway into adulthood. Growing up, my mother always had tea with her friends when they got together. As a young girl, in order to join them you had to be able to drink tea black." Tea is only half of the fair. The other half is Wade collectibles. The two are somewhat tenuously related by Red Rose Tea which used to include a Wade figurine in each box and still includes a free figurine order form. Wade and Tea vendors from across the US and Canada come to Windsor for fair weekend to display and sell their extensive, and often specially-commissioned, Wade ceramic figurines and Tea items. "We often get groups like the Red Hat Society that come to browse the fair and to go to the off-site tea events," says Windsor Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Jane Garibay. "They have a great time." We'll also be having an Italian Dinner and a Health Benefits of tea seminar. $5 fair admission includes a free Wade figurine and each child who attends gets a free Wade Collector's Kit. Local businesses are getting into the spirit too, offering related events and specials over the weekend! Patti's Treasures offers a rare selection of collectible Wade figurines as well as her wide range of antiques and collectibles. She has some special edible treats for tasting, too. Her shop on Poquonock Avenue in Windsor is a Fair favorite. And The Beanery at Bart's is hosting its annual Wade Mother and Daughter Tea Party where one lucky girl will win an American Girl doll. The Windsor Chamber of Commerce commissions a Show Special Wade piece from Wade in England each year. This year's special is a Teapot Wade ornament. Browse the fair and you'll fall in love with these adorable collectables and enjoy some lovely teas and other goodies. The Hyatt Summerfield Suites is offering a Special Fair Rate.
