A Message From the Executive Director

A Message From the Executive Director
When people ask me what I do as Executive Director of the Chamber, I tell them I'm in the community building business. As both a business association and one of Windsor's leading civic organizations, we are here to empower our members, advocate for business, and strengthen the civil society of our town, region, and state. With these goals in mind, the Chamber Board of Directors and I have been working hard to enhance the value we offer our members and offer new ways to get involved. Here are three new opportunities to grow professionally, raise your stature, and help Windsor's business community help itself:

• March 20 will be the Windsor Chamber's very first Lunch and Learn! This monthly lunchtime series will feature presentations from local business leaders who share their expertise on subjects that are helpful to anyone involved with a business. Lunch & Learns also provide time for networking with other businesspeople and a complimentary lunch. Our first Lunch and Learn will be presented by Chamber member Steve Porcaro of SalesPlus MVP Coaching & Training and is titled Networking for Success: Making LinkedIn Work for You. Attendees will also receive a free headshot courtesy of Jen Morrissey Photography. RSVP at http://windsorcc.org/rsvp .

• The Chamber has reconstituted its Transportation Committee. Volunteers are needed to help us advocate for a transportation system and infrastructure that supports quality economic growth. With the commuter rail line still coming into operation, and a host of challenges ahead in road, bus, and parking infrastructure, the Chamber has an opportunity to ensure that the business community has a voice as key transportation decisions are made – and to take efforts of our own to provide connections to our businesses for workers and consumers alike.

• I'm also excited to announce the formation of a Public Affairs Committee. This committee will identify coming challenges and opportunities at the town, state, and federal levels, and create opportunities for Chamber members to connect with political leadership. Economic development briefings, legislative breakfasts, and public forums are just a few of the activities this committee could undertake.

Committees meet once a month at a time amenable to its members. If you're interested in getting involved, please call me at the Chamber office (860-688-5165) or just reply to this email.

There are also a couple of opportunities coming up to help out the Windsor community:

• Windsor Public Schools is participating in the GoBabyGo program for its third year. GoBabyGo is an event (this year the morning of Saturday, March 30) where Windsor students retrofit a power-wheels car for a toddler with mobility issues. Giving these kids the gift of zoom is a wonderful experience for them, the high schoolers who do the work, and the sponsors. They're still seeking three $300 sponsors for vehicles.

• A local Eagle Scout, James Farooque, is working on converting one of our local river trails into a heart healthy fitness trail. Ten stations will be installed along the trail with instructions and apparatus for a variety of fitness conditioning exercises for all ages. James is seeking sponsors for the trail. Your name and logo would be prominently displayed for the lifetime of the equipment.

As above, if you'd like to help out either of these worthy community efforts, just give me a call at the 860-688-5165 or reply to this email.```
