School To Business Partnership

School To Business Partnership
Mission Statement:
To provide support from the local business community to Windsor Public Schools in order to promote students' career awareness and to create a future highly skilled workforce. Chamber members will provide direct exposure to community businesses which will help students develop the technical and personal skills needed to achieve their career goals.

REAL program
This initiative pairs Career and Technical Education teachers with business and industry sites that relate to their program. Each teacher spends half a day at their business site, then returns for the afternoon to revise curriculum to reflect information gained from their visit. Site visits typically take place on the Election Day professional development day.

Bringing Business to Business
This subcommittee provides resources to the Business department. Resources have included speakers on multiple topics related to business, insurance and finance, assistance finding job sites for students, as well as a panel of business representatives who served as judges for business plan presentations.

WHS Windsor Federal Savings bank branch
Windsor Federal Savings bank has worked extensively with the Business department to develop a branch site, staffed with student tellers, at Windsor High School. Thus far, the bank has conducted two rounds of student teller training at their site, with the next planned for this summer.

Job shadowing
This program allows students to spend time shadowing a person who works in an area of interest to the student. Students begin the process with a structured learning experience in the Career Resource Center that includes career research and resume writing. When their research packet is completed, they are individually placed at a site that is aligned with their area of interest.

Cooperative Work Experience program
The CWE program allows students to work at business sites during the school year and earn course credit under the direction of a supervising teacher.

Summer Youth Employment program (Paid Internship program)
This program, supported through funding provided through the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and the Windsor Education Foundation, coordinates student placement at work sites over the summer. Students complete an interest inventory and are placed at sites related to their future career interests. The supervising teacher oversees the student application process and placement, provides classroom instruction in the "soft skills" required for workplace success, and oversees students' performance at their work sites.
