The Town of Windsor Human Relations Commission will hold a vigil honoring the three lives lost and those injured in the Charlottesville, Virginia tragedy on Sunday, August 20 from 1:00 pm -4:00 pm. We invite the entire Windsor Community, all of our sister cities and towns, local police and Connecticut State Troopers to join us. We ask that people wear the color purple or wear a purple ribbon to honor Ms. Heyer. Dr. Steve Lipman will perform the Star Spangled Banner and the Windsor Police Department will post colors for the fallen Virginia Troopers, LT H. Jay Cullen and Trooper Berke M.M. Bates. Pastor Nicole Grant Yonkman of First Church of Windsor will offer words of prayer and healing. Mayor Donald Trinks, Windsor Town Manager, Peter Souza and the Windsor Human Relations Commission felt this was much needed as we are a town very rich in culture and diversity and the FIRST Town in CT. Mayor Donald Trinks and other local, state and federal officials will offer words in recognition of Windsor being a community of inclusion, passion and understanding where there is no place for bigotry, racism or negative organizations or factions that support these beliefs. “This is a vigil and not a demonstration”, said Judge Washington, Chair of the Town of Windsor Human Relations Commission. He said, “We can do better!!” The vigil will take place on the Windsor Town Green beginning at 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, August 20th, 2017-Donation baskets will be available and sent to victims’ families in a show of solitude. Contact Windsor Town Hall for more information (860) 285-1805 or Ask for Judge Washington to contact you. |
