September evenings are beautiful in Windsor, prompting Windsor Historical Society and Windsor Public Schools to team up at the start of the school year. On Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 6 p.m. (rain date 9-21), we invite you to bring a picnic and your favorite book and hang out with other book lovers on Windsor Historical Society’s lawn. Windsor Public Schools is giving participants history and social studies-themed books appropriate for grades K-12 (first come, first served) and Windsor Historical Society’s exhibits and Hands-On-History Learning Center will be open. British Wives & the American Rev
Join us at the Oliver Ellsworth Homestead on Sunday, September 23 at 2 pm for a fascinating presentation on Sober, Industrious Women: Wives of British Soldiers in the American Revolution. Don Hagist, author and managing editor of Journal of the American Revolution will speak on this often misinterpreted role of women, as they accompanied their soldier husbands to the Colonies during the American Revolution. Come hear the surprising portraits of women who lived and worked within the British garrisons and encampments. Don will also be available for book signing. Cost is $10 per person.

Annual Windsor Freedom Trail Walking Tour, presented by the Windsor Freedom Trail Committee - Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 7:30a.m. -11:00a.m.– starting point: Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 320 Hayden Station Road, Windsor. Walk along this 3.9 mile route with your friends and family as you learn about the rich history of the Connecticut Freedom Trail and visit the Windsor Freedom Trail sites that are associated with African American heritage and movement towards freedom. Registration for the Town of Windsor Citizen’s Academy is now open for the fall session. Here’s your chance to learn more about the operation of Town of Windsor departments in an informal, fun way. The seven-week interactive Citizen’s Academy begins on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in the Town Hall Council Chambers from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and will then continue to meet on Thursday evenings through November 1st at various town facilities including the Police Station, Public Works garage, Fire House,and others.
