Valentines for Veterans
Drop off your homemade Valentine’s Day cards and we’ll make sure the cards get distributed to local veterans’ organizations for Valentine’s Day. This activity can be a teachable moment for youth to learn who veterans are and why they are so important to our community.
Deadline: Cards must be dropped off at LP Wilson by Feb 5th, 2021 at 5:00 PM.

Full Moon Hike
Start the New Year with a guided Full Moon Hike on Thursday January 28 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM through the trails of Northwest Park! Learn why this first full moon of the year is called the Wolf Moon. We won’t hear any wolves but we may hear owls and other creatures of the night. If weather permits, bring your own snowshoes or borrow ours.

Ages 14+.
Fees for this program are $12 person (Windsor resident) $16 per person (non-residents).

Home Energy Solutions Program
Home Energy Solutions (HES) assessment includes a safety inspection, installation of efficient specialty lights, installation of low flow shower heads & faucets, testing and sealing of heating and cooling ductwork and systems, blower door test and prioritized foam air sealing, installation of quality door kits, caulking of windows, a full report of services, ROI energy saving upgrade report and rebates.

Currently all HES assessments are free to all homeowners who have not had one within the last 3 years.
The co-pay will increase to $50 on April 1, 2021

Virtual Home Alone Safety
This interactive 90-minute course will cover safety concerns parents have when their children are by themselves. Students will learn to be more aware of the potential dangers they could face when they are alone. Each student will receive a workbook that covers house key safety, indoor and outdoor (including kitchen) safety, gun safety, fires, and gas leaks. Parents will receive a workbook with conversation starters such as creating a family fire escape plan and the importance of an emergency contact list.
Ages: Recommended ages 8-13. Windsor residents only.

Ice Harvesting in New England
Join historian and expert ice harvester, Dennis Picard, for an interactive program on Ice Harvesting in New England on Saturday, January 30 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

In these days of refrigeration, most people do not know that New England was the center of ice harvesting in the 1800s, sending ice by sailing ships as far away as India. He will share the interesting tale of this once massive enterprise that is now fading from our collective memory and also display some of his antique tools of the trade including several invented in Massachusetts.

Voices Against Lyme Disease a 501(c)3, based in Windsor, CT is continuing their Support Group for those with a tickborne illness or a family member and friends. This group meets on the first and third Saturday of every month and is free to anyone wishing to join us. We use strict COVID 19 guidelines for our meetings. In addition, to support discussions we also provide up to date research information on tick borne illnesses, awareness and prevention.

Windsor Historical Society invites you to join in a fascinating season of virtual history programs! Presented via Zoom, these programs provide opportunities to learn as well as to participate and share your own stories. The Society is approaching its 100th Anniversary in 2021 and is exploring new ways to ‘do history’ inclusively – this winter series promises something for everyone – whether you prefer to just listen and learn or to get actively involved – each program will leave you with a deeper understanding of Windsor’s history and your own!
