John Karas receives Recognition Award
A few years ago, the Windsor Conservation Commission (WCC) agreed to bestow an Annual Recognition Award to the individual or company for making our town a desired place to live and work for its natural ambiance. John Karas and the Windsor Journal are this year's recipients. Over the years, the WJ has kept our community in touch, provided an encompassing coverage of special happenings, recognized people we should appreciate, and covered the latest town news.

A newspaper editor and historian, John appreciates our natural environment and trees as well as the importance of business. Balance and harmony are key to sustaining both. Trees serve humankind in many ways. One of which is filtering pollutants. Data shows that depending on the type of tree, on average, a single tree can absorb as much as 48 lbs (21.77 kgs of Co2 per year.

Therefore, the WCC decided a most fitting award would be a tree. We are pleased to report that a Sycamore, one of John's favorites, has been planted in the Palisado Avenue River Walk area. Our appreciation to the Town, John Govoni, and Michael Giacomazzi for their assistance in attaining the tree and having it planted.

On behalf of the Windsor Conservation Commission members: Ann Beaudin, Colette Yeich, Neil Sachdev, Lea Chayes, Nigel Pepin, Brian Canoni, Ayes Adams, Dominick DeCarlo, and James Klase, our thanks the Windsor Journal.
