First Church “Illuminated Faith” Exhibit Opens
Faith and belief – two areas integral to spirituality and worship – are explored in a creative new exhibit at First Church in Windsor, CT. “All are welcome” to visit the exhibit’s opening, says Senior Minister Rev. Nicole Grant Yonkman, “I’m so excited by the words and beliefs illustrated in this exhibit, and to be able to share them with our larger community.”

“Illuminated Faith… exploring faith and belief through art and essay” is the latest in the First Church congregation’s commitment to exploring and expanding the role of worship within and beyond the confines of Sunday morning service and traditional activities,

The Illuminated Faith exhibit features 28 First Church members, each of whom has written an essay about some aspect of their own belief system, and has decorated a hand-held box to illustrate and illuminate that belief and essay. First Church member Laurel Pepin, a professional photographer, has photographed each participant, with their box.

The portraits and corresponding essays will be displayed throughout Frist Church’s historic meetinghouse, in an exhibit open to the public Sunday, October 24 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Creative themes and installations have been a staple at First Church for several years, with the congregation’s Creative Worship Team using the physical space of the meetinghouse as a canvas to support seasonal worship themes, such as “Faith in a Seed,” “Out of the Wilderness, “God the Artist,” and now “Illuminated Faith.” 2020 and 2021 themes – which have been designed to enhance both virtual, live-streamed and in-person worship -- have been supported by a Vital Worship Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids Michigan, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment, LLC.

“Illuminated Faith” debuts with the October 24, 1-3 p.m., and will be open to the public after First Church’s 10 a.m. service, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., October 31, November 6, 13, and 20.
