Carmon Funeral Homes Host Black History Bus Trip to Wash DC

Over 150 Greater Hartford residents will board coach buses for a meaningful trip to the Washington, D.C. area. The trip, hosted by Greater Hartford’s Carmon Community Funeral Homes, will include a visit to the new National Museum of African American History & Culture, and to historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va. At a private Saturday dinner, the group will hear from two dynamic leaders from the nation’s capital.

SATURDAY, FEB. 25, 2017
Departure from THE LODGE, 130 Deerfield Rd. in Windsor, Conn.
4 a.m. (early a.m.) Bus trip attendees arrive and register, then board buses
5 a.m. sharp Buses depart from The Lodge for Washington, D.C.
1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tour of National Museum of African American History & Culture
7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Special Banquet at Hilton Alexandria Old Town, 1767 King St., Alexandria, Va.
Featuring two dynamic speakers:
• Dr. Greg Carr, Associate Professor & Chair of Howard University’s Dept. of
Afro-American Studies; and
• Ja'Ron Smith, Urban Affairs & Revitalization for the Trump administration’s Domestic Policy Council.

SUNDAY, FEB. 26, 2017
6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Breakfast at Hilton Alexandria Old Town, 1767 King St., Alexandria, Va.
8:45 a.m. Buses depart hotel for church
9:30 a.m. Attend service at Alfred Street Baptist Church, 301 South Alfred St. in Alexandria, Va.
11:15 a.m. Buses depart hotel for return to Connecticut
Approx. 7 p.m. Buses expected to arrive at The Lodge

This first annual Black History Month trip to Washington was organized as a labor of love by Carmon Community Funeral Homes and will be led by Frank W. Carmon, IV, and other staff members. Over a decade ago, the funeral home hosted a series of bus trips for WWII and Korean War veterans to visit the then-new National WWII Memorial and Arlington National Ceremony. The 71-year-old Windsor-based family-owned firm has nine locations in North Central Connecticut: Avon; Granby; Hartford; Rockville; South Windsor; Suffield; Vernon; and Windsor (2 locations), and its own on-site Mount Laurel Crematory.
