| | | Mid-winter baking, anyone? A cozy fire, the smells of applesauce and wafers cooking at Windsor Historical Society’s Strong-Howard House, plus cookie decorating and baking in the main building may be just what you need to beat the winter blahs. Please join us on Saturday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’re assembling frostings, colored sugars, and more for your cookie decorating pleasure. Our Hands-On History Learning Center will be the center for cookie decorating, where you can view an exhibition of student art inspired by Windsor’s historic district, or, if you’ve brought the family, don colonial costumes, “milk” Flavia the cow, and have fun with Fisher Price toys and our train table. Decorate a cookie, and then our volunteers will pop it into the oven to bake. While you wait, run over to the Strong Howard House and see Becky Hendricks use a shaping iron to make intricate wafer cookies hearthside. She will also be preparing apples for hearth-cooked applesauce and answer your questions about hearth cooking. The cost for this program is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for children, $3 for Windsor Historical Society members or $12 per family and you can register online.
