Are you interested in researching the history of your older Windsor house? Thanks to a grant from The Connecticut Humanities Council, The Windsor Historical Society has prepared a new guide to the resources in its research library that can help you get started on this quest. How to Research your Historic Windsor House at the Windsor Historical Society describes some of the architectural surveys, photographs, genealogical information, 19th century tax records, and maps that are in the Society's collections. These are fascinating to examine and may contain helpful clues. The staff will orient you to the library and these resources. Are you curious about some of the other unpublished materials in the Society's library? Descriptive inventories and indexes for many of these items are located in the library and several of these finding aids have recently been added to the Society's website at http://windsorhistoricalsociety.org/finding_aids.html These feature the Christopher Miner Spencer, Huntington Brothers, and Ralph Lasbury collections. The website is also a great place to find information about upcoming programs, gift shop merchandise, the Hands-On-History educational programs, and past issues of the newsletter. The Windsor Historical Society is known for being innovative and creative in using its resources to make Windsor's history interesting, relevant and fun. It is located at 96 Palisado Ave., Windsor, CT. You may visit Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am until 4 pm or call 860-688-3813 for more information.
