One of Windsor's most beloved landmarks is the John and Sarah Strong House, once known as the Fyler House, which stands just south of Palisado Green. The house is maintained by Windsor Historical Society as an historic house museum and is open to the public year-round. Paul Suto could not help noticing as he drove by the building each day that it was badly in need of fresh paint. It just didn't seem right to him that a major symbol of Windsor's history should look shabby on the eve of Windsor's 375th anniversary in 2008, and he wanted to give something back to the community. He decided to offer the Windsor Historical Society a free-of-charge paint job for the Strong House and asked Sherwin Williams Company to donate the paint. They were happy to oblige and featured this project in their nationwide publication this fall. Suto and his crew worked hard for a week, hand-scraping the old paint from the walls and applying a glowing new coat of red paint. Christine Ermenc, Executive Director of Windsor Historical Society says, "Windsor Historical Society is so grateful for Paul Suto's gift of time and talent, and Sherwin Williams Company's donation of paint. Now, our building truly does justice to Windsor's beautiful historic district by looking fresh and sparkling for Windsor's 375th anniversary." The Windsor Historical Society, founded in 1921, invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over 370 years. The Society's museum includes changing and permanent exhibition galleries; a hands-on history learning center for families; a research library and mansucript collection housing Windsor photographs, documents, ephemera, and genealogical materials, a museum shop and two historic houses open to the public year-round the 1758 John and Sarah Strong House and the 1767 Dr. Hezekiah Chaffee House.
