UConn School of Business Summer 2006 Entrepreneur Internship Program The University of Connecticut School of Business, in conjunction with the UConn Family Business Program, is proud to begin accepting host company applications for the Summer 2006 Entrepreneur Internship Program. The Summer Entrepreneur Internship Program is an innovative program that fosters a true partnership between Connecticut's business community and the UConn School of Business, ranked as New England's #1 Public Business School. The internship program was developed to give host companies a fresh perspective and increased productivity through interns who have greater access to technology and intellectual capital at a cost that is significantly lower than hiring and training staff. The internship period also allows host companies the opportunity to recruit early and train future employees under the guidance of soon-to-be retirees. CBIA's most recent annual survey finds that "Businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to hire qualified workers to fill specific positions, especially high-tech and skilled-labor jobs, which are in demand in Connecticut," said CBIA Economist Pete Gioia. "The retirement of the baby boom generation in a few years will lead to a critical shortage of workers with the skills necessary to compete in today's high-tech global economy. We need to make sure that employees entering the workforce can help drive the innovation and productivity gains that our economy needs to remain competitive in the global marketplace." Past projects have included market research, database creation and maintenance, website design and implementation, software evaluation & networking, office organization and human resource management, "lean" configuration and special projects. The Summer Entrepreneur Internship Program: Interns with a specific interest in small business and entrepreneurship are matched and placed with a host company. Interns work for a 10-week period: May 22 to July 28, 2006. Interns are paid $14/hour by the host company and are required to work full-time equivalent at the host company per week.
