The Windsor Chamber of Commerce recently organized a trip to China at a very affordable price. Twenty-nine women and men signed up and enjoyed the 9 day tour of Beijing, Hanzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai. Some of the highlights were the Great Wall of China, the Dragonwell Tea Plantation, The Bund and the Hutong tours of Old Beijing. The Chamber offered the trip through a well-known tour company who specializes in Asian tours and has knowledgeable, personable English-speaking tour guides. Before their departure, the group met at the Chamber to learn how to get their documents in order, what the food would be like, how strenuous the trip to the Great Wall would be, and details about electricity, transportation and currency. Everyone was prepared and raring to go. Ann Parkhurst's favorite part of the trip "was the Linyin Temple in Hangzhou - a beautiful site including a 66 ft. statue of Buddha carved from camphor wood and dozens of Buddhist sculptures carved into the stone on the path leading up to the Temple." She also enjoyed "the criuse along the canal in Suzhou, the Venice of China. It was so interesting to see the way local people incorporate the waterway into their daily lives." Deborah White loved the Hutong Tour. "Seeing the traditional living area was great. I loved the Rickshaw ride and going into a family's home and sharing a meal with them." Next year the Windsor Chamber will be hosting a trip to Spain and in 2013 they may offer a trip to another Asian country.
