First Town Downtown's mission is to promote the town center and develop vibrant economic and cultural activity in Windsor. This fits in smoothly with The Chamber of Commerce's main goal of promoting Windsor business and advocating initiatives that enhance the town's economic vitality. Together the organizations will be able to serve the whole town better. The Chamber and First Town Downtown have partnered in the past on specific events like the Concerts on the Green and the Town-wide Sidewalk Sale. The organizations have related goals, mainly promoting business in Windsor which enhances the quality of life in Windsor. The partnership will benefit both organizations and the town of Windsor in different ways and they are excited to work together. "There are many examples of other Chambers of Commerce that have successfully partnered with Main street programs to the benefit of their town," says Jane Garibay, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. "We've been researching them for several months to see if a partnership would be viable." Once the research was done and proved that the partnership could work to the benefit of both organizations, representatives from each board met and worked out the details. The partnership comes at an ideal time as the Chamber is expanding its services to better serve the different sections of town. It already has a Day Hill area focus through the Transportation committee and will be opening a satellite office in the Wilson area this fall. Existing members of FTDT will retain membership in FTDT, which will remain a 501(c)(3) corporation, with its own benefits and existing Chamber members will retain membership in the Chamber with its unique benefits. The organizations share a similar mission but serve different needs in the business community. If you wish to volunteer for either organization, please call the Windsor Chamber of Commerce at 860-688-5165. |
