The Windsor Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce that its annual Chili Challenge is "green". "We started last year when we found cups and spoons made out of cane sugar instead of the usual styrofoam," says Executive Director, Jane Garibay. The cups and utensils are fully bio-degradable. "We go through about 10,000 chili cups and wanted to find a solution to reduce waste," says Lori Hartmann, Committee Chair, aka Chili Empress. There will also be recycling containers all around the town green during this co-operative highly anticipated event. There are lots of water bottles and soda cans used and they can all be recycled easily that day on the green. The Chili Challenge hosts creative cooks from local businesses and civic groups who serve their chili on the town green every autumn in Windsor. The recipes vary widely. Some are spicy, some are tame. This year's Chili Challenge is sponsored by Windsor Federal Savings. Chili sample tickets are $1.00 each. Attendees can try as many kinds of chili as they have tickets and help decide who wins the People's Choice Award. 2011 Chili T-Shirts "Peace, Love and Chili" are available from the Chamber in person and online. Past years' t-shirts are also available. See all the t-shirt designs online at www.windsorcc.org. "There is always plenty of great tasting chili, great costumes (each booth has a theme) and plenty of family fun at this popular event," said Hartmann, "We are thrilled that many cooks come back year after year with new recipes."
