Golf and Business. It seems a funny match to me, as a non-golfing entrepreneur. Playing an infuriating game doesn't seem like a great thing to do with business prospects. But I hear that many deals really are done on the golf course. In fact, Bill Storer, president of Business Golf Strategies has eight rules of business golf. He says, "Think of it as a six-hour sales call" including post-round drinks or dinner. If you follow his simple rules, everyone wins. His rules boil down to the following: Play with decision makers, play to your ability, patience, do unto others, don't drink, focus on results, follow up. Read the details at www.golf.com. The Windsor Chamber of Commerce has a Golf Tournament each year at Traditions at Windsor on Pigeon Hill Road, this year on May 23rd. Reasonably priced at $380 per foursome or $95 per person, the WCC tournament is a great place to bolster your business relationships. At last year's tournament, Becca Mockalis of Hyatt Summerfield Suites met the organizer of the Teen Pro Am. Although they were already set for hotel arrangements at the time, that changed the next year. Becca got the room block thanks to her business savvy at the Chamber golf tournament. The tournament not only provides an opportunity to network and make new business contacts, it also serves as the funding backbone of the Chambers educational programs including the annual New Teacher Reception, Teen Job Shadowing, Businesses Fueling Minds, Mini Grants for Teachers and more. By attending the golf tournament you can promote your business while supporting these productive programs to support the future business leaders of Windsor. You might also consider joining the Chamber's golf committee; a good group of business people from various industries who work together with the Executive Director to plan the popular tournament. The committee members are Bruce Chamberlin of Flotech, Martin McMahon of Edward Jones, Tony Roncaioli of Windsor Federal Savings, Jon Rechenberg of Carillo Insurance Agency, Mark Harrington of Horizon Home Mortgage, LLC, Ken Pascoe of Bagge, Cennamo and Company, LLP, Harry Freeman of The Butler Company and Tyler Ball of Day Hill Kennels. The Chamber Golf Tournament starts at 11:00 am on May 23rd and includes eighteen holes of golf, barbecue lunch, steak dinner and prizes. Sign up for the tournament online at www.WindsorCC.org or call 860-688-5165. |
