As of January 14, 2016, the Windsor Police continue to receive calls from members of the community, both residents and businesses, whom are falling prey to a fraud telephone scam in which residents are being victimized, sometimes for hundreds of dollars.
In this scam, a caller pretends to be an employe calling from Eversource, Connecticut’s largest electrical utility company.
The caller claims that the a bill is overdue and that unless money is sent that day, usually wired by money gram, then the power company will come to shut off the victim’s electricity immediately. This is fraud and a crime. Eversource will NOT call you and threaten to shut off your power.
The Windsor Police Department, working in cooperation with Eversource, is committed to protecting our community members from this and other frauds and scams. If you receive a telephone call from someone threatening to shut off your power or any other telephone call you feel is suspicious, please contact the Windsor Police immediately at (860) 688-5273 so an officer can investigate this matter further.
