DePeyster fills a newly created position at Windsor Historical Society, designed to foster community engagement as the Society begins its second century and looks to new ways to fulfill its historical mission. “We are thrilled to have Sulema join us at this pivotal time,” says Society director Doug Shipman. “She brings enormous talent and historical perspective, having worked with some of the very best faculty at UCONN, and her prior work with Windsor history will enable her to begin making a difference here at WHS right away!”
Sulema has already worked closely with the Society’s latest oral history project focused on WAACA, the Windsor Afro-American Civic Association, and will be deeply involved with the Society’s upcoming centennial events to help residents share their personal Windsor stories. “History has always been a great passion of mine,” notes DePeyster. “This incredibly rewarding experience is what inspired me to continue my work with oral histories and with WHS.” Sulema joins a Windsor Historical Society staff of six who, in partnership with dozens of dedicated volunteers, provide historical services and programs to people throughout the region and, thanks to virtual technology, across the country. Shipman is excited about the future and hopes that people will stop by to meet Sulema or join in our upcoming events to share their stories with her as she begins her work here in Windsor!
The Windsor Historical Society invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over four centuries. The Society’s museum, historic houses and research library are located at 96 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) and are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
