John C. "Jay" Carmon, Jr., CPC, has been re-elected to serve a fourth term on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA). Carmon is a licensed funeral director/embalmer with Carmon Community Funeral Homes, based in Windsor, Conn. The family-run funeral firm has nine locations in North Central Connecticut: Avon; Granby; Hartford; Rockville; South Windsor; Suffield; Vernon; and Windsor (2 locations), and its own on-site Mt. Laurel Crematory. The funeral home was founded by his grandfather, Frank W. Carmon, Jr. in 1946. Carmon became a funeral director/embalmer in 2007 after receiving his professional schooling at the New England Institute of Mortuary Science at Mount Ida College in Dedham, Mass. Previously, he was the owner/manager of "Jay's Hometown Grill" in Windsor Center. The lifelong Windsor resident lives with his wife, Christina, and their three children. A former member of the Poquonock Volunteer Fire Company, Carmon is a past Board member of the Windsor Exchange Club, was the 2010-2012 President of Windsor's First Town Downtown, and a Planning Committee member of Windsor's 375th Anniversary Celebration. The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA) is comprised of funeral directors at more than 220 funeral homes. The 2017 Officers and Executive Committee elections were held during the association’s 128th Annual Convention in December. Founded in 1889, the Wethersfield-based association is committed to the promotion and advocacy of high ethical standards in funeral service.
