A founding director of the Windsor Bank & Trust, which later became New England Bank before being sold to Webster Bank, Walter Whelan has been very active in Windsor since moving here in 1955. A 1955 graduate from the University of Hartford, Walter retired as vice president of Imperial Nurseries, a division of Culbro Corporation in 1988. Walter has chaired the Shad Derby in 1972 and later chaired the Shad Fest Bureau. He was past president of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce in 1972 and has also served as vice president, secretary and board member. He was the recipient of the Jerry Hallas Memorial Award in 1977.
Walter lived in Walden Woods with his wife Vivien, an avid antique collector.
